Media Crypt: Videos 3

Step back in time with this SirGravesGhastly.com exclusive! The rare clips on this page are all taken from an actual Sir Graves Ghastly Presents show that aired at 1PM on August 29, 1981 (movie that day was FIEND WITHOUT A FACE). The video (only a partial show) was recorded off channel 2 (WJBK-TV) in Detroit that Saturday afternoon by fan, Peter Kenter, who was living in London, Ontario at the time, so the signal wasn't all that good (or stable). In some of the clips there's appreciable interference and snow, so you'll have to bear with it.

Once again I decided to leave in a little bit of the commercial break stuff, as that is all very much a part of the entire viewing experience--at least for me. Actually, I'd put even more of that stuff in here if I could afford a better hosting package, but for now I'll just have to make do with the space I have. Finally, a note of very ghastly thanks to Peter Kenter for his kindness (and efforts) in sending me the tape and sharing this wonderful footage with us all! Can't thank you enough, buddy! Thanks for helping me to preserve these priceless childhood memories forever. Thankfully, here's more footage that will never be lost now!!

Sir Graves Ghastly Presents! show video

1PM Saturday, August 29, 1981.
WJBK-TV, Detroit.
"Fiend without a Face"

The Glob sings "Ghoul Days"!
Coming out of a TV2 Lions Football promo (which is very hard to make out due to the bad reception), Gravesy summons The Glob for a song--in this case, "Ghoul Days". There's a lot of interference in this entire clip so it doesn't look great. But at least we have it captured for all-time!

Voice of Doom
After a fun Hot Wheels commercial, Sir Graves visits Voice of Doom in the boneyard for another Riddle Time! Followed by an on-air Channel 2 flub (saw lots of these on local TV back in those days, didn't we?) as they try to cut to the movie.

Mr. Bones Jangles & the Skeleton Dance
First, a United Community Services spot, then back to Sir Graves! Here we see a part of the set we've not seen in other clips yet--what appears to be Sir Graves's study or library! He intros "Mr. Bones Jangles" and his friends for the ever-popular "Skeleton Dance" bit, which was a recurring segment, it appears.

Art Ghoullery!
Wow, we now have two complete Art Ghoullery segments here in the Crypt archives! Life is good. And dig that crazy song in this here one! Boy do these Ghoullery clips bring back those magical Saturday afternoons. Don't forget to watch for your picture this week!

Weekly Mailbag
After a really cool old JCPenney commercial, Sir Graves reads from the mailbag.

Sir Graves Muscular Dystrophy Telethon promo
The Ghastly One does a little pitch for the upcoming Jerry Lewis MD Labor Day Telethon (clip is quite garbled). Oh, and I also left in an "Arms Too Short To Box With God" Music Hall Center promo. Man, do I remember this spot! Even though I hated it as a kid, it really takes me back now. Classic.

Show ending
A cool local Mr. Steak commercial, then Sir Graves wraps up this week's show. He also explains a short hiatus he's about to take. Happy Haunting!
