Media Crypt: Videos 2

Step back in time with this SirGravesGhastly.com exclusive! The rare clips on this page are all taken from an actual Sir Graves Ghastly Presents show that aired on November 1st, 1980 (many thanks to Clyde Brown for sending me this footage!). The video was recorded off WJBK-TV in Detroit that Saturday afternoon as it was broadcast. This was pre-cable television, so the reception wasn't always great. Therefore, some parts of these clips exhibit the classic '70s and '80s "snow" and picture drift that was so common for viewers in those days before digital cable and all. For us, "fiddling with the rabbit ears (TV antenna)" was just a part of life. TV was certainly a lot more interactive! So anyway, the quality of these clips is not great, but at least we have it!

November 1, 1980 show opening
Opening of November 1, 1980 show! Includes "Reel McCoy" digging up this week's movie (Frankenstein), and Sir Graves introducing it.

Sir Graves and the Voice of Doom
Sir Graves visits the Voice of Doom for Riddle Time in the old graveyard. Note: during this segment the picture really goes south! Unfortunately, there are no virtual rabbit ears to fiddle with.

Viewer mail and The Glob!
Sir Graves reads letters sent in by viewers and then The Glob sings a song about Frankenstein!

Commercials and movie segment
In this clip, the show returns after a commercial (Mummenshantz at Music Hall Center. Remember this one?) and it illustrates the commercial bumper graphics that were used. At the end is another old commercial for WCXI Radio (I remember this one well, too!).

Tilly Trollhouse
Much to Sir Grave's chagrin, Tilly sings a song.

Station break
Commercial break graphics along with more samples of the movie that day.

Movie segment
The show returns after a rather surreal commercial I just couldn't resist leaving in (it has the strange vibe that lots of the spots had back then on those hazy, lazy Saturday afternoons). Also, the address to write to Sir Graves at channel 2 is given.

Commercial break
I decided to include a few vintage commercials in this clip to set the mood a little. Among them, there's a great CKLW Radio spot that's sure to take you back, as well as one for the Meyer Treasure Chest Stores!

The Art Ghoulery!
We finally get to see one of the show's most popular and endearing segments again--a visit to the Art Ghoulery! Children sent in monster drawings and Sir Graves displayed them.

Show ending
Sir Graves wraps up this week's film, and checks in with Reel McCoy in the Dungeon to see what he's digging up for next week's show. Then Sir Graves wishes us Happy Hauntings!
